Band Biography :
Formed in 1996, the Milwaukee based Fat Maw Rooney (originally the Roadhouse
Blues Band) has grown from their humble beginnings into a talented group of five
well-seasoned musicians. Fat Maw Rooney’s music can be described as eclectic
jam-funk neo-blues that transcends all age groups and musical tastes. Their
original material is loaded with rich harmonies, relentlessly catchy vocal
hooks, and danceable instrumental grooves that have captivated a variety of
different audiences throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota. FMR’s live shows gain
momentum when inventive composition, improvisation, and irrepressible energy are
joined with a creative lighting display in order to give the audience an
exciting and memorable experience. I n late 2002, Fat Maw Rooney became the
bands official name as they began to experiment with new arrangements, moving
toward an original sound that expanded beyond just playing the blues. During
this transitional period, they began taking more chances within their
compositions and live performances. It was this courageousness that inevitably
led to the creating a sound that was truly their own. The response from FMR’s
audience to this approach was both excellent and encouraging, and thus the group
began building on their solid musical foundations using funk, jazz, bluegrass,
and Latin to add an entirely new dimension to their blues/rock heavy shows. A
short time later, Fat Maw Rooney entered the studio and after five months
emerged with their new eclectic and energized original album, End of the
Beginning. Since then, it’s been all up hill for the group. They’ve won a number
of music contests. Their most recent victory was the nationwide 10,000 Lakes
Festival Cosmic Break Contest. Winning gave them the opportunity to perform with
such bands as the String Cheese Incident, The Roots, The North Mississippi
All-Stars, and Keller Williams. They’ve also been tapped to be the opening band
for some major acts including Leftover Salmon and Freshwater Collins. Fat Maw
Rooney plans to continue writing and arranging new material. They also hope to
expand their touring options and continue sharing their unique style of music
with music-loving people from coast to coast.
