PASSION DRIVE VISION “Globe are truly a phenomena! With roots firmly planted in
the infectious monster rock sounds of the early seventies, Globe have
successfully ramped up the genre for a 21st century audience. Loud, proud and
about to happen!” Norman McCourt Editor of A ’n ’R — Australian Music Marketing
Abroad Flying in the face of the retro revival come Melbourne’s GLOBE, a band
that’s more than ready to meet the new century on its own terms rather than
pillaging the past. Armed with a massive sound and the rare vocal talent of
their vocalist, Lorry Ians, GLOBE have taken it upon themselves to create
world-class rock – without waiting for permission. Rather than waiting around to
be “discovered”, GLOBE set about recording their debut, independently hiring
Craig Porteils, an award-winning producer who has worked with artists as diverse
as Billy Idol, Cher, Guy Sebastian, Diesel, Fleetwood Mac and many more. “I
first received a demo CD from GLOBE earlier this year,” recalls Porteils. “After
the first listen I immediately called the guitarist, Tom Rouch, and told him I
wanted to get on board. As a producer of rock/pop, I found it refreshing to hear
a band so musical and obviously the boys could play their instruments well. This
music wasn’t your typical straight up pop crap. The songs had depth and the
lyrical content was outstanding.” “We want as many people as possible have
access to our songs,” says guitarist, Tom Rouch. “We have a lot of faith in our
music, and we believe our music is strong enough that once people have heard it
they’ll want to see us live.” “Globe pull a big sound. Anthemic songs … Radio
friendly … The singer has a great voice.. Confident on stage, as are all the
band. Great playing from the four-piece.” Neil Wedd – Indie Initiative. Unlike
many commercial rock bands, formed in the studio, GLOBE are fearless when it
comes to live shows, seeing them as an opportunity to connect with their
audience directly. Lorry’s vocals, backed by years of study at the Melba
Conservatorium of Music, prove to be as bold, pure and note perfect in the live
arena as they are on record. Similarly, the trio of Tom Rouch (guitar), Rudi
Testa (bass) and Rob Raymond (drums) are equally committed to musicianship as
they are to entertaining audiences. “We love to play live,” Lorry says
enthusiastically, “We know that records are only part of what keeps a band
going, and the live thing is a big part of success. Some acts are just
interested in making records, but we’d love to play every day.” “We do live for
our music, it inspires such a desire in us to get out there and play for people,
to tour and play,” agrees Tom. “I think some people are just born with that
desire to get out there and perform for people. The idea that we can get out
there, sharing universal themes, singing about things that have meaning not only
to us, but to a lot of people – about what we share as humans, about achievement
and having integrity – that’s important to us.” It’s this kind of passion that
rounds out GLOBE as a band – not only do they have talent and drive, they have a
vision that looks outwards – no angst ridden introspection here, but a genuine
desire to connect with people with the best tool they have at their disposal …
music.. “It’s the songs, obviously,” says Lorry. “They’re a real journey, and
I’m sure a lot of people will be able to relate to what we’re about.”
