JUNKYARD EMPIRE Featuring MC Brihanu Christopher Robin Cox (trombone/electric piano) Brandon Wozniak (saxophone) Zacc Harris (guitar) Matt Peterson (bass) Adam Katz (drums) Junkyard Empire, formerly known as Leo Bixby Music, is the fiery outcome of decades of collective musical experience and desire to play music that adheres to no limitations and cuts through with social and political relevance. Trombonist Christopher Robin Cox moved to Saint Paul, MN in the summer of 2005 and quickly found guitarist Zacc Harris and drummer Adam Katz. The three soon realized that they had the mutual interest of exloring music that is deeply rooted in groove, but allows for free improvisation as well. The result of this vision is the explosive sound of Junkyard Empire. By infusing the elements of hip-hop, jazz, and indie rock, the group began developing a fresh, exploratory melting pot of music, performed the way that only seasoned jazz players could. New treatments of Cox’s originals from his two previous bands, the Fifty-first Monkey and Leo Bixby Music along with Harris’ compositions from the Mothership Funk Orchestra were arranged, and the already progressive repertoire began to really take on a new voice. Nevertheless, something was still missing from the overall group sound, lyrics. Cox knew that a talented, politically progressive rapper was essential. Enter MC Brihanu, a Philly native transplanted to the Twin Cities. Bringing thoughtful, articulate, and unapologetically political lyrics to the table, he has helped Junkyard Empire become just that, an empire unto itself; erected from the revolutionary sounds of the past and present, striving to give a voice to the missing revolution in this modern America. While under the name Leo Bixby Music, the band performed at the French Press Jazz Café, the Red Sea Bar, the Fine Line Music Café, and was invited to play at this years Summerfest. Junkyard Empire has already begun to take off. With gigs booked at Mayslack’s, the Uptown Bar, the Nomad World Pub, and the one and only Bunker’s, Junkyard Empire is poised to be the next band to illuminate the Twin Cities’ well-respected and growing progressive hip-hop and indie rock scene. Their debut CD, tentatively titled “Sountrack to the Revolution” is planned for a January release.
