Band Biography :
Coming straight from the outskirts of Seattle, the greatest music city in the country, emerges a hard melody beltin’ band named Poorsport. With influences ranging from early-70’s Punk to Orange County Hardcore to Frederick Chopin, Poorsport plays the tunes that are guaranteed to get at least one of your toes tapping. These four best friends have developed a one-of-a-kind musical style, fondly labeled Rain City Punk, that stands out in an industry of uniformity and monotony.
Currently, Poorsport is playing locally and regionally to expand their fan base and support the release of their second CD (fully financed and produced themselves). “No Hitter,” Poorsport’s sophomore LP, has 22 energy packed songs including fan favorites, “Lockdown” and “81″. You can also hear three similarly formatted songs that Poorsport wrote specifically to tell their listeners a little more about their individual personalities. These 3 songs (collectively known as “Suck Songs”) are Animal Husbandry, Leave Me Alone and I Love Everything.
Sharing the stage with notable acts, including Guttermouth, River City Rebels, Butt Trumpet and Lagwagon, Poorsport is taking the Seattle scene by storm. The band is forming relationships with local venues and has become staples at Seattle’s own El Corazon (formerly Graceland). Poorsport was also selected out of 2600 bands to play the local stage at the Van’s Warped Tour 3 years in a row.
Poorsport was formed when college-mates Kevin and Kyle (also related by marriage) decided to form a band. This pair established their foundation when drummer, Skeeter, became available after leaving the band he currently was in. The rhythm section was solidified when (the young and incredibly talented) Ben was able to fill the missing hole at bass. With a name change and solidification of the line up, these punk-a-teers have prevailed to make an impact in the industry.
As much as their name implies bad attitudes and temper tantrums, this is not the case with Kevin, Kyle, Skeeter and Ben. These amazing young men exude gentleness and dedication. This is proven in their music and with their fans over and over again. Poorsport has plans to tour regionally including their first full West Coast tour in late summer 2006. They are seeking support in distribution, endorsement and considering label representation. In the interim, Poorsport perseveres toward making all of their dreams come true by performing in front of any audiences (big or small). “Even if one person is impacted, it is worth playing,” states lead vocalist Kevin Mackey. You can hear their music on the Poorsport Official MySpace (www.myspace.com/poorsport) and PureVolume (www.purevolume.com/poorsport). Poorsport CDs are also available through Tower Records, CD Baby and Starpolish. Check out these “poorsports” and don’t miss the opportunity to have some fun with this unique and high-energy band.
