Location : Brooklyn NY, NYC, USA
Band Members :
Elaine Benavides (Drummer/Keys/tapestry of backup vocals)
Band Biography :
Rise NYC are an ambitious electronic rock trio that hail from the Big Apple.
Their sound is very early 90’s British alternative dance music (see New Order,
EMF, PWEI, Curve) meets current happening Lower East Side fashionable groups
like The Kills. Their multi-media show is a mix somewhere between a Bauhaus
concert and an Erik Bugosian Rant. Formed a week after the 9/11 disaster with a
goal to uplift the city, Rise NYC are composed of Shelly Ebner on vocals/bass,
Elaine Benavides on drums/back-ups and Die J! Mars on guitars/programming.
Shelly’s a tap-dancing actress from The Actor’s Studio, Elaine’s from
Juilliard’s Music in Technology program and, aside from being a popular
underground dj, Die J! Mars is a grad from York University’s Film Program
obsessed with 70’s Saturday morning TV shows. Isn’t that how the Wizard of Oz
happened? The band has a lot to celebrate this month as they are featured on
“International Deejay Gigolo Records CD 8 – Selected by DJ Hell”, Larry Tee’s
spanking new “Gentle Electric” compilation (Mogul Electro Records), a Tribute to
Hong Kong Counterfeit (Kinetik-Media Records) and their own debut e.p., Mise en
Scène, which was produced by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ drummer, Jim
Sclavunos, worked on by Ex-Dee Lite’s Supa DJ Dmitri, remixed by Genesis
P-Orridge, Superstar DJ Keoki and the Dirty Criminals with cover art done by
legendary East Village artist, Scott E-Walt. Rise NYC have become a centerpiece
in NYC’s club-life, playing the same circuits that spawned such successes as The
Scissor Sisters, Fischer Spooner, Princess Superstar, etc. They have also made a
big dent in NYC’s rock world playing alongside legends such as Kid Congo Powers,
wooing audiences that consisted of groups like Interpol. Rise NYC are currently
tackling the art-world, performing a July concert in the windows of 42nd Street
as part of the Oasis Festival put on by the Chashama Artists’ Collective. After
that they plan on recording 2 more 5 song e.p.s (each with 5 exclusive remixes)
and then tour the U.S. and Europe through Gigolo Booking Agency. Rise NYC are
currently seeking a record label that are equally ambitious to see this band top
the charts and forever build their fan base. For more information, check out:
