Band Biography :
Suddenly Monday is a pop-rock band that has gained powerful eminence in
Cincinnati, Ohio, with music that strives to be both comfortable and inspiring,
while adhering to popular formats. Their objective is to create memorable hooks
that resonate in everyone that hears them. They are an all-inclusive band, with
all-inclusive songs. Greg Benjamin and Mark Ramey met each other in 2001 through
a mutual friend–that is, a girlfriend–and began writing songs about her in
order to pass time. Outside of relationships, there isn’t much to do in Ohio, so
the environment was naturally conducive toward their musical development. Mark
had formerly played with the hardcore band Youngfellow, and Greg, having never
sung with a rock band before, found that his gospel-trained voice seemed to
compliment Mark’s guitar style in a way neither of them could have imagined.
After working up an arsenal of catchy songs, they began playing open-mikes in
places that would have otherwise been mistaken for crack houses. Over the
ensuing months, they worked their way up the highly respectable Midwest open-mic
scene, and soon drew the attention of other local musicians that wanted to join
the band. Greg and Mark ultimately chose two talented young men to fill out the
band. With the addition of Justin Webb on drums, and Joe Brinkman on bass and
keyboards, Abusing Grace was formed. The band played regularly at bars and
clubs, generating a devoted group of enthusiasts. In 2003, guitarist and bassist
Don Peteroy, who had previously played in a twenty-three piece swing band,
joined the group. Now with both Joe and Don assisting in the songwriting, the
band was able to find their own unique sound, which is hinted at on their first
unreleased CD, Abusing Grace. A new identity developed, as did their long term
goals to reach the ultimate success. The name of the band was changed to
Suddenly Monday so as to suit their new sound, and, frankly, the unintentional
double connotation of “Abusing Grace” did not sit well with many people. The
members of Suddenly Monday have played extensively, and travel as much as they
can, having had appearances at The Southgate House in Kentucky, the Mad Frog in
Cincinnati, Navy Peir in Chicago, and in Indiana, Baltimore, Madison,
Millwaukee, Columbus, Austin, and a few other states I can’t remember without
looking it up . In May, the Mark left the band to follow other musical
interests. Don, naturally a guitar player, retired his bass and took over on
lead. Over the last six months, Suddenly Monday has been working diligently on
their 3rd CD, titled “Gift Wrapped Nebraska”. On this cd, they will go above and
beyond their fimiliar territory.
