Band Biography :
Tam Lin got together in December 2003 so that Carla and Alex (with the Jesus
haircut) could play at an Untapped Talent band night because they were not
allowed to go on stage acoustically. After the first gig at Potterow it turned
out Rory and Alex (not with a Jesus haircut, more like Tin Tin) wanted to
continue playing in the band. At least until they received a better offer.
Andrew soon followed due to immense peer pressure and the band was born. The
band has gone through more names than they should admit. Imogen’s Dancer was the
first name, but it was considered far too girly for such a masculine band. This
was followed by Pro Tem which moved swiftly onto Fortyfiveminutes. After these
proved to be crap, which was the surprise of the century, the name Tam Lin was
decided upon. Tam Lin is a ye olde folkie tale and tune all about rape, love and
goblins which suits our music rather well… umm. So now it’s all about the angst
folk music, which is about the best it can be described as really. Influences
include Polly Jean, Dylan, Ani DiFranco and Ben Harper but individual tastes are
so bloody different it’s a wonder that anything is ever agreed upon. However,
there appears to be no rhyme nor reason, or excuse for that matter, on why
guitarist Alex cannot comprehend basic timing or rhythm. But it sure makes an
interesting listen… The band have produced two EPs at present, The Broken Glass
EP 2004 and The Reaction To You EP 2005 which are both named after songs
recorded with the intention of being on the EPs but never quite made it… So,
with all that behind us now, things can only get better with lipstick marks
still on your coffee cup.
