Band Biography :
Formed in 2003 in a scummy house in Leeds 6, the Smokestacks set about writing
and recording songs as they wanted to hear them, then playing enthusiastically
to anyone who would listen. Kicking against the idea of fitting into a certain
musical style, their “if we like it, we play it” approach began to set them
apart from other bands, allowing Toffs, Tramps - and every sucker inbetween -
freedom to enjoy their music. With a now extensive history of live performances
to their name, the Smokestacks have performed with acts such as The Sunshine
Underground, 10,000 Things and The Paddingtons; played live for the BBC;
embarked on successful UK-wide tours and sold out all 300 copies of their debut
7”single.
