    Under One

Under One began in early 2005 when guitarist, Richard Bates responded to a flier. On the other end of the line was drummer Mike Azzinaro. The charisma that naturally established when the two got together pushed them to begin scouting other musicians while working on material.

Azzinaro called guitarist Cyrus Brandenburg and bassist Ernie Black(formerly of Grit). The four of them immediately began working on material while the search for a vocalist began.

After auditioning a few Michigan vocalists, the guys found Jeremiah Baker(formerly of Hell Core and Punishment). Under One was officially formed.

After 5 months of rehearsing, Under One landed it’s first show opening for National Artist, The Brain Surgeons. They followed up with two more local shows at Oade’s Hidden Camel. Under One then went to Big Gig Productions to record a 3 song demo to send out to venues and promoters. But then things began to fall apart.

Under One decided to part ways with Ernie. Determined to go on, Jeremiah called guitarist Josh Knechtges(AKA J.D., formerly of Hell Core) to fill in on bass while they figured out what to do. Shortly thereafter Cyrus decided to take a bow and remove himself from the scene. J.D. switched over to guitar and Mike called bassist Tony Alicea(AKA The Rican, formerly of Uncle Chuck and Symmetry).

After just one rehersal, it became clear: Under One would live on. After one month of rehearsing, Under One made its reappearance in the local scene in October of 2005. They tested the new lineup on stage and decided to take a couple months to write new material that would reflect the dynamic changes to the band.

January, 2006: Under One emerges from hiatus with a vengence. Playing only 2 local shows in January, Under One decided to reformat their game plan. Febuary marked the beginning of what would be a successful run of shows around Michigan.

Under One began to build the reputation of being a technical high energy band, which landed them an opening slot for National Artist, Hemlock. After being a semi-finalist in the 2006 WKLQ Heavyweight Championship Battle of the Bands, Under One solidified their name in the local scene. Soon after, they were finalists in the 2006 Q106 Homegrown Throwdown Battle of the Bands. But things would again take a turn for the worse.

Shortly after the semi-final round of the Homegrown Throwdown, Under One decided to part ways with vocalist Jeremiah Baker. After resolving some issues, Jeremiah joined Under One again and they played the Homegrown Throwdown finals. Under One continued to write material with Jeremiah, but the relationship could not be repaired. Under One parted ways with Jeremiah again.

Bringing in Adam Ray on vocals, Under One kept their commitments and continued on, including an opening slot for National Artist, Suicide City. After a short time, it became clear that Adam was not the right guy for the job.

Deciding to continue on as a four piece, Rich, Tony and J.D. began writing lyrics to the songs. Then, the guys received an email from an interested vocalist. Chad Elliot, formerly of Scarefactor, was just out of rehab and looking to get back into the scene. The guys told him up front that they would not stand for drug abuse and the carelessness that comes with it, and that if he felt confident that he had put it behind him, he was welcome to come out. So Chad came out to audition and ended up freestyling a whole set. The writing was on the wall.

Since Chad joined, Under One has risen to the top of their game. Travelling down to Cleveland for their first out-of-state show, Under One opened for National Artist, Mushroomhead. After returning to Cleveland and seeing many familiar faces, Under One has decided to make a splash and ride the wave as far as it will take them.
